During this time of “Back to School” preparation and transition, children and teens are experiencing heightened anxiety.  This WonderChat will step through tools to UnMASK. what is contributing to a child or teen’s anxiety and provide strategies to help manage it. 

M:           Mind/Body Connection

  • Promote a child’s ability to learn in school by helping them understand fear, anxiety and stress responses and begin to make sense of their mind/body connection 

A:            Assess and Access Anxiety

  • Focus first on understanding what is contributing to a child’s/teen’s anxiety and facilitate activities to help them name it

S:            Support, Structure and Stress-Relief

  • Develop coping plans with children and teens that include support people, predictable routines, and stress relieving coping tools

K:            Know your Limits

  • Stay within your scope as a child life specialist and help parents know when to seek additional support
