Our Families' Stories
Wonders & Worries is honored to serve our client families. Some are affected by cancer, others by illness such as ALS, MS or even rare conditions you may never have heard of before. Three families have generously offered to share their stories with the hope that more children and parents can be inspired to seek support when a parent is seriously ill. They, like all of our families, inspire us every day to work harder and help more.
The Dees Family
In 1995, Julie Dees was ill – very ill – and no one knew what to do. She and husband Brian Dees aggressively sought answers from doctors throughout Texas. (read more)
The Thurn Family
Tim Thurn’s mother died from Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, so the moment he felt a familiar lump on the back of his neck, he had it checked out. (read more)
The Vara Family
“We were doing everything we could just to survive,” says Laura Vara, mother of now 9-year-old Daniela and 20-year-old Luis. In December 2003, Laura was diagnosed with stage 3B breast cancer. (read more)
