Annie Downing, the event chair, said, “We want this year’s event to be one of Austin’s best parties, so there will be dancing and live music until the late night hours, in addition to other activities that showcase the success and accomplishments of the work of Wonders & Worries throughout our community.”
Wonders & Worries Helps Children And Their Families Cope When A Parent Or Caregiver Has A Chronic Or Life-Threatening Illness. All Services Are Provided Free Of Charge. Sondra Murray is the event’s honorary chair this year. Sondra’s three children received Wonders & Worries’ support throughout her husband’s illness and death, and now through her own health crisis.
Murray says, “Wonders & Worries gave us a game plan and road map to follow, the words to use — everything we needed. It was amazing as every spare minute was spent trying to keep Jim alive. Anna, Jay, and Claire have continued monthly group (support) at Wonders & Worries since Jim’s death. It was extremely helpful when I was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. The children have been very confident since the first day and have handled it beautifully. We would not be where we are today without Wonders & Worries.”
Wonders & Worries Was Founded By Meredith Cooper, MS, CCLS, LPC and Melissa Hicks, MS, CCLS, LPC, RPT. Gene Parker and Colleen Jamison were referred to Wonders & Worries (along with their two children) by a physician when they learned that Gene had cancer. Colleen said, “When my husband was sick, I felt like my family was falling apart. But looking back now, we didn’t fall apart. It was really hard for a long time, but we didn’t fall apart. There IS hope. Wonders & Worries can help. I’m so grateful they were there for us.”.
